Picking Pumpkins 2018

October 31, 2018Instead of going out for a date night this weekend, Steve and I decided to have a night in and cook dinner together. We finally used the cookbook, Date Night In, that I got Steve for Christmas like two years ago. After flipping through the cookbook about a dozen times (decision-making issues), we decided on White Bean and Pumpkin Gratin with Crispy Shallot Crumbs, Brussels Sprouts Slaw with Grapes and Feta, Poached Pears in Muscat and Cherry Lime Soda. We stuck to the recipe for the most part but tweaked them to our liking or to make it gluten-free. All four things we made were delicious! The White Bean and Pumpkin Gratin was by far our favorite (actually one of my favorite dishes ever), I texted my family that we were bringing it to Thanksgiving after three bites.
The night started by shopping for everything we needed for dinner at Trader Joe’s and Westborn Market. Came home, asked Alexia to play “dinner time music” and started cooking. Well actually Steve did most of the cooking, I helped with the prep work and made the Cherry Lime Soda.
It was nice to put away our phones (besides for a few pictures) and just enjoy each other without the distractions of being out at a restaurant.
